Granger High School’s boys golf team made school history at its recent tournament at Oquirrh Hills Golf Course. The team broke the school record for the lowest team score ever recorded, shooting a combined 382.
Oquirrh Hills presents a significant challenge for high school golfers. Tight fairways, fast greens, and mountain slopes make reading putting lines difficult. High school golf relies on cumulative team scoring, requiring consistent play across the entire roster to set a team benchmark.
The players maintained focus throughout the round, bouncing back from individual errors without letting single mistakes disrupt overall performance.
Bryce Olsen (12) says the team stayed focused during the round while remaining eager to improve as the season progresses.
“It was great to find out that our team beat the school’s record,” Olsen said. “I feel like everyone that day was locked in and we all tried our best, but we can still keep doing better.”
Golfers maintained an approach centered on steady improvement without adding unnecessary pressure during play. The team aims to lower the record score again before the season concludes.
Setting the record at Oquirrh Hills required strategic shot placement and course management, as the venue favors accuracy and patience over distance.
Benson Turcsanski (12) says setting the record on a challenging course made the milestone particularly meaningful.
“Oquirrh Hills was a tough course, and it’s awesome to hear that we beat the school’s record,” Turcsanski said.
With the previous record surpassed, Granger golf turns its attention to the remainder of the schedule, aiming to lower the team scoring mark in upcoming matches.
