THE SUPER Bowl 59 halftime show was performed by Kendrick Lamar featuring SZA. People liked the performance, however, many of them were intrigued by Kendrick Lamar’s choreography because some of them think it has a meaning behind it.
Allyson Jimenez (9) says that the singing was good and that they were a good pick for the halftime show. “I really like how Kendrick Lamar and SZA sang ‘All the Stars,’ ” Jimenez said. Another song that Jimenez liked was “Not Like Us” by Kendrick Lamar.
“I thought it was really messy that Kendrick sang that song of dissing Drake, but it was also good to watch him perform that in the Super Bowl,” Jimenez said. Lastly, Jimenez says that Kendrick’s performance also had something to do with the government: “The backup dancers were wearing red, white, and blue representing the U.S flag,” Jimenez said.
“The flag is divided into two pieces, which I think means that everybody is on edge about what Trump is doing now that he became president,” she said.
Jocelyn Felixes (9) is another student who watched the show. “The Super Bowl was good this year. I thought it was crazy that Kendrick performed ‘Not Like Us.’ ” Felixes also says that she was a bit disappointed that Kendrick didn’t sing “PRIDE” at the Super Bowl, but it was OK because it was still good.
“One thing I found funny about the Super Bowl was that when Kendrick was singing ‘TV off!’ At the end of the song, he said, ‘Turn the TV off!’ and people actually did. I think most people just watched the Super Bowl for the halftime performance,” Felixes said.
Felixes says her favorite song from the performance was “Luther’ by Kendrick Lamar featuring SZA. “I really enjoyed that song. I personally like it better than ‘All the Stars.’ ” Felixes said.
Katie Mueralez (9) also enjoyed the halftime show. “I thought this year’s halftime was good. I really liked how Kendrick and SZA performed ‘All the Stars.’ I really enjoyed that a lot.” Mueralez said.
She says that she liked how Kendrick sang his diss song about Drake in the Super Bowl, “I was singing along with him,” she said. “When I was watching the Super Bowl, I thought that Kendrick’s dance routine was sending a message about today’s generation,” Mueralez said. She says that Kendrick was saying how people picked the wrong person to be president at the right time.
“I also have seen on social media this picture of Kendrick on the stage and his background dancers were the U.S. flag and it was divided, and that Kendrick was looking at Trump, I think Kendrick was trying to say that Trump is gonna divide this world,” Mueralez said. However, that is everything Lancers had to say about the Super Bowl halftime show for this year.
