SOFTBALL is a very hard sport. It is not easy to complete every single play without mistakes. So let’s talk about three of softball’s top performers and how they keep their heads up in the game. Angelia Naeata (12) and Daizee Hardman (11) have been members of the varsity team since their first year. Each year, they make themselves stronger in the sport that they love.
This year, with their great sportsmanship and attitude, Daizee and Angelia have earned the position of becoming Captains for the softball team. On the field, they cheer on their teammates and communicate plays to everyone so they know where to go. Although Daizee and Angelia are only two of nine players on the field, they try their best to make sure everyone keeps spirits high.
At the start of the season, Angelia was an infielder. She was learning what it was like to become a shortstop. Shortstop is not that easy; balls come off the bat much harder than they do in other spots. Angelia was scared at first, but then was able to set her fear aside. She was stopping balls and making plays no matter how fast they were moving at her. Then she went back to play in the outfield, where she was stealing great hits from opposing teams.
Halfway through the season, the main pitcher had gotten hurt. Daizee stepped up and became the pitcher while the other recovered. For Daizee, it was not a problem—she knows what to do. Although pitching can be hard, she does not show it at all. Still communicating with her teammates and complementing them when making good plays.
Haylie Harper (12) has been a varsity player since her sophomore year, playing 3rd base, catcher, and outfield. In her first year playing softball, she was still learning to be the great player she is today. With her hard throws and hits, she makes a big impact in the game. Whenever she misses a ball or has a bad throw, she doesn’t let it get in her head, cause she knows that the next time it happens, she’s got it.
All three of these players are top leaders on the softball team, with the most hits and stolen bases. These players have gotten a full cycle on the bases, having a single, double, triple, and a home run. They are also very aggressive on the bases; when the ball passes the catcher, they advance without hesitation. They all have an average score of 0.8 fielding percentage, which is pretty close to a perfect score.
Although softball can look chaotic at times, these girls know where to go when things seem to get out of hand in the game. All three of these players have great sportsmanship. No matter how much they seem to struggle, they keep themselves and the team up. They are loud in the dugout, cheering their hitters and runners. When on the field, they are loud, letting everyone know where to throw and where to make the plays happen.
