GRANGER High School offers a variety of clubs for Lancers to choose from, whether the reason for joining is academic, cultural, athletic, or just for fun. Some of these clubs are new to Granger or are lesser known but still provide opportunities for students to get involved.
The Asian American Student Association (A.A.S.O.) is a new club at Granger that was started by Neal Phan (11). Phan says the club is a “passion project.” “It’s basically a social hangout for people to make friends,” Phan said. “We do a lot of team bonding, tutoring, club games, drawing, and tournaments like Rubik’s cubes.” The goal of A.A.S.O. is to bring students together to have fun and socialize.
Ethan Vu (11), a member of A.A.S.O., says he joined the club to represent his culture. “I joined because it was a good opportunity to represent Asians, and to rep the culture,” Vu said. He adds that the club’s fundraisers, games, and welcoming atmosphere make it a great place to meet new people. A.A.S.O. meets every Monday in room G-107, and the advisor is Mr. Morgan.
Another lesser-known club at Granger is Helping Paws, which focuses on helping animals in shelters throughout the West Valley. Angela Ocampo (12), a member of Helping Paws, says she enjoys being part of the club because it allows her to help animals while spending time with others. “I get to spend time with other people in the club while we help out and volunteer for the animals,” Ocampo said.
Dalahi Castaneda (12), another member of Helping Paws, joined the club because her friends were involved. “I joined because some of my friends joined the club, so I did too,” Castaneda said. “I enjoy being in the club because I get to help the animals.” Castaneda also says the club is a great fit for students interested in animals or pursuing a career in veterinary science.
Helping Paws holds meetings every other month on the third Tuesday in room F-210. The advisor is Ms. Chavez.
Just Serve is a new club at Granger created by students interested in giving back to the community. Lydia Cousins (12), a member of Just Serve, says she joined because of the club’s mission. “It’s a good club because I get to serve the community and Granger through service projects,” Cousins said. Just Serve is designed for students who want to participate in community service.
Olivia Cloward (12), another member, joined the club because of her interest in community service and because many of her friends were involved. “I thought it would be nice to join because a lot of my friends are in it,” Cloward said. “And because I thought it was nice to do community service around here at Granger.” Just Serve provides a great opportunity for students who enjoy serving others and want to get involved in community projects.
Just Serve holds meetings once a month on the second Wednesday, with the location changing regularly. The advisor is Mr. Burton, and the meetings are held in room H-210.
These three clubs are just a few of the many opportunities available to Granger students. All of them welcome anyone who is interested in joining and becoming part of the Granger High community.
