LOCKERS can be extremely useful, especially for new students navigating school for the first few weeks. Securing a locker can seem confusing at first. When I first arrived, I did not even know students could request one and assumed they were just for decoration. Fortunately, getting a locker is simple, and knowing what essentials to store inside can make the school day much easier.
Lockers used to be automatically assigned to every student, but as usage declined over time, the administration shifted to a request-based system. However, members of the drill team, dance team, cheer squad, and Student Body Officers still receive automatic locker assignments. For all other students, getting a locker simply requires visiting the main office and speaking with secretary Ms. Gudmundson. She will remind students never to share their locker combination and to store it in a safe place.
Before packing a locker, students should keep in mind that internal space is limited. Personalizing the space is a great first step. Adding a small magnetic mirror helps with quick check-ups between classes, while hanging photos of friends, family, or favorite activities makes the locker feel more personal.
Accidents and unexpected schedule changes happen, making a change of clothes a valuable addition to a locker. Stash an extra outfit for personal use or to lend to a friend in need. Keeping hygiene items like spare deodorant, flossers, a toothbrush, toothpaste, and gum can also save the day when morning routines get rushed. During winter months, lockers provide the ideal spot to store heavy coats instead of carrying them between classes.
Long class periods can leave students feeling drained, so stocking a locker with non-perishable snacks provides a quick energy boost during the day. For students who menstruate, keeping a discreet emergency pouch stocked with pads, tampons, and pain relief meds ensures preparedness for unexpected situations.
For any student wondering why lockers seem underutilized or how to claim one, the process is straightforward. Stop by the main office, keep your combination secure, and customize the space with daily necessities to make the school year smoother.
