THE MOST controversial question with a lot of opinions is: who is the best soccer player? Messi or Ronaldo? Messi fans know how we had a game here, RSL vs. Inter Miami. I was lucky enough to go to the game with my cousin, Sergio. I had left my soccer game early to avoid the long lines and traffic. When we got there, the line was super long to check in our tickets and get access to the stadium. Right when we entered, we saw a big crowd of people crowding to find seats or food. Everyone either had the RSL jerseys or the jerseys of the teams Messi has played for. So there were Barcelona, Argentina, and Inter Miami jerseys everywhere, and of course, the lucky number 10.
The lines to get a quick snack or even a full meal were super long. Just looking at how long the lines were made me not want even to eat. I think it was just the excitement of seeing Messi with my own eyes. My cousin and I were lucky enough to find a spot with a short line and quick service. While we were waiting in line, there was a loud, fun parade cheering for RSL. There were flags and an amazing beat with it to jam to.
The game started with Inter Miami taking the kickoff. As RSL was moving up with a quick transition, a player named Gozo crossed the ball to the middle, and another RSL player headed it into the goal. Unfortunately, the goal was counted as an offside. (It was definitely not offside. If you’re confused about what an offside call is, it occurs when the offense of the opposite team is further back than the defense.
To be quite honest, the ref was not the best. Everyone was pretty disappointed with the ref. There were many fouls called while they should’ve been cards. The people in the crowd who were upset about the calls had yellow and red cards, which they would pull out when they disagreed with a call. There is always some type of music that is being played by the fans in the crowd. They would sync the music with the tension of the game, creating a movie-like effect.
One thing I really noticed was how aggressively Inter Miami was playing. They would grab some of the other players and use their bodies a lot. So, they were playing pretty strongly, but sometimes not so fairly. They would grab them as if they were hugging the players from behind and tug on their jerseys, and of course, the ref wouldn’t call some of those unfair plays. Throughout the game, most of the time they would play on the RSL side of the field, with some in the middle. There started to be a lot of disagreements with Diego Luna and the ref. Even from afar, you can tell Diego Luna is getting pretty frustrated with the game just from his body language. The game was a really good match. There would be the excitement of both teams almost scoring, making the crowd stand up in hopes of seeing a goal. The game switched right when Inter Miami scored two amazing goals back-to-back.
