THERE is a new pet owner rule: any pet owner on campus must leash their pets and always clean up after them. The pets must also be vaccinated, including up-to-date rabies vaccinations. There are exceptions for service dogs for people with a disability since it’s the Law! There is also an exception for properly trained law enforcement dogs. Any stray animals that come onto the school grounds must be removed from campus by the administration.
If pet owners do not clean up after their pets, they will receive a citation or ticket for failing to pick up pet mess. “We made the rule due to sanitation for the school and made fees for pet owners failing to clean up pet waste on Granger’s property and campus,” administrator Levi Negley said. This school did not have this pet owner rule before, but to prevent further problems, the admins decided to implement it.
Schools like Granger generally restrict pets on campus due to safety, sanitation, and liability concerns, particularly during school hours, though some colleges allow dogs in specific outdoor areas or housing. Many institutions prohibit dogs from playing in fields, and staff have the right to demand that the pet owner remove the pet from the property immediately if the pet is causing disruptions or violating policy.
Also, a pet owner has to show their pet to be visibly identified as safe. If one has their pet loose, they will get a pet ban, which means bringing any pet is permanently prohibited.
Stray animals, like raccoons or rats, in the school building are gonna be removed immediately. To prevent disease and ensure student safety, schools will call Animal Control Officers, who will remove the animal before anything bad happens.
