THE ST. George trip is one of the biggest trips for softball. Softball gets the first feel of the season. They play for two days in a tournament and have a team bonding day for a whole day. On the bus ride to St. George, the team was making great connections with one another by playing games.
When the team first arrives at St. George, everyone goes to their hotel, where they will be staying for the whole trip. Once everyone is off the bus, they are assigned a room with one senior. Each senior is assigned two underclassmen students and is responsible for them. The hotel room had two beds and one couch with a pull-out bed. In each room, a senior got a bed, while the first-year students fought for the other beds.
A couple of the underclassmen just agreed to sleep on the couch, while others played rock, paper, scissors. One room among all the softball girls’ rooms was chosen to be the chill room. Everyone would cram into this room to play games and get ready for games. The first night, everyone went into the chill room to play wolf, and they were arguing, trying to stay in the game.
“I think it was a fun team bonding exercise, and also a great learning experience to see how the softball team connects on the field when playing,” Charli Moorhead (9) said.
On the second day, everyone was excited because the team had gone to Fiesta Fun Center for a team-building activity. Everyone went on go-karts, racing each other and even colliding a couple of times. The team then split into two groups to go to laser tag and bowling. After the team went back to the hotel to get ready for their games, they had lost their first two, but that didn’t stop them from having fun.
For the last day, the softball team had to be up early for their next three games. They had won their first game and lost their other two games. On the drive back to Granger, the bus had gotten stuck, delaying its arrival. While the bus was stuck, the team was bonding and having fun, and the bus driver was getting it fixed so it could come home.
After a while, the bus driver called it and arranged for another bus to pick up the team and get them back on the road. After the St. George trip, many of the girls believe that the team connection only got better. The softball team looks forward to how this connection will help them on the field and in the dugout.
“After the trip, I got really close to my teammates, and while playing games, I got better. It was a really fun trip for my first year playing,” Sirolein Jokas (11) said.
