MANY LANCERS look forward to going back to school because of the trends that are all over social media. These include get-ready-with-me videos, people showing what they pack for their lunch, or even videos of going back to school shopping for clothes, school supplies or makeup. Most back-to-school videos on social media feature girls and boys showing their back-to-school fits, which stands out as a student favorite. Several popular back-to-school trends stand out among the student body.
Megan Vierya (11) says that her favorite back-to-school trend definitely has to be back-to-school shopping. “This trend is my favorite because who doesn’t like to go shopping for a bunch of cute things!” Vierya said. She says that this trend is always one she is excited to see, and it has never changed.
“Back-to-school shopping is also fun because you can go with your friends and go to the mall to pick up a bunch of stuff for school,” Vierya said. She likes shopping for school supplies because she gets cute supplies, such as cute mechanical pencils, notebooks, folders and other items.
“School trends I’m looking forward to seeing this year would be GRWM videos, because they’re such a cute trend that all of us get entertained with, and I honestly hope I see a lot of them this year,” Vierya said. She says that if she were to follow along on a back-to-school trend, she would do a GRWM. “I would do a GRWM because I would just wanna yap while I do my hair and change into a cute outfit,” she said.
Vierya says that one trend she does not want to see is students sluffing. “Although this isn’t really a trend, but a habit that many students have and I feel like it’s about time everyone locks in. So NO more sluffing guys!!” Vierya said.
Nelly Barrera (11) says that her favorite back-to-school trend has to be back-to-school hauls.
“I love to watch people do the transitions into their new outfits with the audio saying their grade. I think that friend groups doing their back-to-school blogs are really cute and fun,” Barrera said.
Barrera says that trends she looks forward to seeing this year would have to be friend groups doing back-to-school hauls and blogs.
“They are all really fun to watch, and I enjoy watching them because they get me excited for the new year. When I see those trends, I can just feel myself coming back to like being with friends, and the FNL season — it’s just so fun,” Barrera said. Barrera says that if she were to make a back-to-school video, she would do a blog with one of her friends.
“I would do it so I can look back at it later in the year or even the next school year and just remember how fun it was to be in that moment and how much it is something that I cherish,” Barrera said.
Camila Muñiz (10) says that she always looks forward to a new school year and this year her favorite back-to-school trend is seeing people doing transition videos of the night before school and the morning of school. And Muñiz says that it has to be one specific song, “Marlboro Nights” by Lonely God.
“Every school year I love seeing back-to-school hauls because it reminds me of how much everyone is excited to dress up for the new school year, but it also gives me an idea of outfits I can wear as well,” Muñiz said. She says this is the trend she looks forward to seeing this year.
“If I were to make a back-to-school video, I would love to do a ‘GRWM.’ Posted video or not, I feel like it would be so cute to look back on and realize how fast life moves on & things change. Every year I always FaceTime my friends to get ready on the phone, and I think it would be so cute to include them as well,” Muñiz said.
Muñiz says that a trend she is not looking forward to seeing this year is people trying to be trend followers and judging others.
“I dislike seeing videos like ‘What shoes are we wearing to school this year?’ Honestly, I feel like people should wear whatever shoes or clothes they like and feel comfortable in. Of course it’s nice to stay in trends, but also I promise you no one is looking at your shoes and judging,” Muñiz said.
Students should not be scared to post those GRWM videos or blogs with friends because they will soon just be memories. Lancers should make sure to record back-to-school hauls and complete back-to-school shopping because money comes and goes. Students can head out there, make back-to-school videos, and have the best year.
