Get hooked on a new Peter Pan

By Natalie Aiono

LISA MAXWELL’S “Unhooked” is a thrilling book packed with adventure and romance. She takes a new approach on the fairy tale “Peter Pan.” This book is full of plot twists, making it an original masterpiece. So if you like romance, adventure, or fairy tales, this is the book for you.

In “Unhooked,” you revisit characters you thought you knew. In this version, Peter Pan and Captain Hook are very different people. This clever twist makes things very interesting. It keeps the reader asking questions. When Pan comes to save the day, is he really saving it? Is Hook trustworthy? Who should Gwen (aka Wendy) believe? Read the book to find out more.

The characters aren’t the only revisions in this book. The plot is unique. Who exactly is Gwen? Her father is absent from her life, and her mother is unstable most of the time. Hook tells Gwen she is special. But why is she? And who is her father, and why has her mother not told her about him? These are just a few of the mysteries in this book.

The romance in this book is very much alive. Although subtle at first, Gwen’s feelings take a powerful turn. Suddenly, she finds herself in love. But it’s with someone unexpected. Can he return her feelings, after everything he’s gone through? The love story in this book keeps things lively, making it an even better read.

“Unhooked” brims with adventure. Gwen has been brought to Neverland. But it’s nothing like what she thought it’d be. And suddenly, Neverland needs her. She is capable of something, but what is it? And can she do it? With all the confusion, she needs help. But from whom? She must make a decision, one that will affect Neverland and all in it.

Maxwell’s “Unhooked” is a fantastic read. This is a book for all ages. Gwen must fight for love, for Neverland, and for herself. “Peter Pan” evolves from a classic, lighthearted fairy tale into a deeper, more sinister adventure. Rewriting a classic is never easy, and authors who try are under a lot of pressure because of comparisons to the original. Lisa Maxwell took “Peter Pan,” and she made it an amazing, twisted fantasy. “Unhooked” is simply great.
