AS HALLOWEEN approaches, Granger High School students are preparing creative makeup designs and costumes inspired by popular culture, classic films, and social media trends. From special effects to intricate color palettes, Lancers across all grade levels are showcasing their artistic talents for the holiday.
Freshman Ashyla Allsman (9) is crafting a unique take on the classic “Scream” character, Ghostface. Her design features black face paint around her eyes accented with pink rhinestones.
“I feel like the hardest part of the makeup look is probably having to make it look great,” Allsman said. Allsman developed the concept while shopping at the mall with a friend after spotting a Ghostface mask. She plans to pair her makeup with a black dress to complete the look.
Junior Elaine Jetnil (11) is designing a custom Wonder Woman look using a palette of red, blue, yellow, and orange tones. She plans to add gold glitter to her hair, blue and red rhinestones to her cheeks, and special-effect fake blood across her neck. Her costume features a red skirt, a red button-up shirt, a red corset, and a black long-sleeve undershirt.
“I feel like it’s going to take me about an hour and 43 minutes,” Jetnil said. Jetnil found her initial costume and makeup inspiration on TikTok and Pinterest.
Freshman Karol Juarez (9) is dressing as Bonnet from “Five Nights at Freddy’s,” utilizing inspiration from YouTube tutorials. Juarez plans to draw structural line details around her mouth and apply gray glitter across her eyelids, using a palette of gray, black, purple, and blue.
“I hope the makeup look will only take me about 20 minutes,” Juarez said.
Freshman Emalani Shelton (9) is dressing as Daphne from “Scooby-Doo,” matching costumes with a friend. Shelton plans to pair a long purple dress with purple and green makeup tones for a realistic character depiction. “I feel like it’s going to probably take me about five minutes to get ready,” Shelton said.
Sophomore Rachelle Rodriguez (10) plans to transform into Pennywise the Dancing Clown from “It.” Her palette focuses on red, white, and black, highlighted by red rhinestones along Pennywise’s signature face lines. “I think it is going to take me about 20 minutes to get ready,” Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez, who found her inspiration on TikTok, plans to pair her face paint with an all-black outfit for a modern take on the character.
