Granger High School offers a variety of clubs for students seeking new experiences, skill building, and community involvement.
A few teachers created the Outdoor Adventure Club to give students opportunities to explore nature outside the Salt Lake Valley.
“This is something a lot of us wanted to do for a while, just create something where we can get kids outside and do things,” Mrs. Funk said.
Mrs. Funk and her fellow advisors designed the club to take students into local canyons and southern Utah national parks.
“We realize that there are a lot of students here who haven’t ever been into our canyons, and haven’t been down south to our national parks,” Funk said.
Another option on campus is the Black Student Union (BSU). The organization focuses on cultural education, college preparation, and building connection across the student body.
“I joined this club because it gave me a sense of community, and we learn Black history, which is educational and a really fun experience,” Ardo Farah (10) said.
Ekra Aden (10) joined BSU over a year ago and serves as the public relations officer this year.
“I joined this club because in some ways it helps me feel ready for college. BSU also helps our community get together. It’s not only for Black students; it’s for everyone,” Aden (12) said.
The Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) club provides another avenue for student involvement, particularly for upperclassmen preparing for higher education. FCCLA focuses on community leadership through service projects, educational strategies, and regional competitions.
“I joined FCCLA because my sister was the secretary last year, and she told me all about it and competing, so I joined,” Giovanni Cruz Augustin (11) said.
