DID YOU go to this year’s prom? Even if you didn’t, it was hard not to hear about it after. This year’s prom theme was “Old Time New York.” From what people were saying, it actually turned out better than expected.
Jasleen Duran (11) said it was something different from what they thought it would be.
One of the biggest things people noticed was what everyone was wearing. Dresses and suits looked more put together than usual, but not in an over-the-top way. Some people kept it simple, while others went all out. But everyone’s outfit fit the theme in different ways, and you could tell people put effort into how they looked. It was nice seeing everyone dressed differently than usual and actually trying.
Getting ready was also a big part of the experience for many people. Groups of friends planned ahead, took pictures before the dance, and spent time together before even getting to prom. From what Duran said, that was just as fun as the actual event. It gave everyone more time to be together and made the night feel longer rather than just a few hours.
Leading up to prom, a lot of attention was also put on voting for prom king, queen, prince, and princess. People definitely had their opinions about who should win, but there were still some unexpected results. It ended up being something a lot of people were talking about, even after prom was over.
Jaydasea Trujillo (10) says most of the night was really just about being around friends. “Different friend groups mixed, people talked more than usual, and it seemed more relaxed. It wasn’t about everything going perfectly; it was more about just being there with friends and not worrying about anything else for a while. That’s what made it stand out to a lot of people,” they said.
Even if you didn’t go, you’ve probably seen pictures going around. Most of them weren’t anything planned, just quick photos with friends that were posted after the dance. It gave everyone else a glimpse of what the night was like and something to talk about the next day. They showed what the night was actually like instead of trying to make it seem perfect, and it gave everyone a chance to see parts of prom without actually being there.
“In the end, this year’s prom ended up being better than a lot of people expected,” Trujillo said. The theme, the effort people put in, and being around different people made it feel different from a normal school event. It wasn’t perfect, but it was still a night a lot of people won’t forget anytime soon.
