“ALL’S FAIR in love and poetry.” At the 66th annual Grammys, Taylor Swift announced her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department. The album has 14 songs and three bonus tracks. What surprised fans most was the collabs — Post Malone and Florence and The Machine were featured on two songs!
“My favorite song so far is “Fortnight” with Post Malone,” Marcela Reyes, a former Lancer, said. “The features are INCREDIBLE. I think they fit perfectly with the melody of the song and Taylor’s voice,” she added.
Swift always had something up her sleeve, and with this album, it was no different. Swift kept leaving clues in exhibits, speeches, and posts pertaining to ‘2’ and 2:00 a.m. Swifties speculated what it might mean, and some of them were right!
At 2:00 a.m., Swift revealed she was dropping a DOUBLE ALBUM. So along with the 14 tracks, 15 more were added in an ‘Anthology’ edition.
“I was f-ing stunned,” Reyes said.
These albums made Swifties pick up a dictionary; Swift’s deep and meticulous writing left fans feeling every word (even if they had to look up some).
“My eyes were filled with tears,” Reyes said.
Swift has a ‘track fives’ tradition where the fifth track of each album is the most honest and vulnerable song. And this time around, it was completely true. Track five was called “So Long London.” This song was parallel to “London Boy” from her Lover album. Whereas “London Boy” was about falling in love with her boyfriend Joe Alwyn. “So Long London” was about falling out of love and reflecting on a six-year relationship.
Swift has been known to write about her personal experiences, and Swifties have been able to connect them to their own lives.
This album made multiple references to wedding rings and being a bride. Fans speculate that Swift and Alwyn may have gotten engaged but then split.
Whether or not fans are right, these songs have been trending on all the social media platforms. The fan favorite song right now is “I Can Do It with a Broken Heart.” This song alluded to Swift’s own Eras Tour. Her breakup with Alwyn happened near the beginning of this tour. The song talked about how even though she was dealing with the loss, she had to put on a smile and perform for the crowd.
“I think it’s tied for my favorite album of hers,” Reyes said. The album broke Spotify’s record for most streams in a single day.
So, whether people love or hate her, Swift is unstoppable and very talented. The album will be on repeat for Swifties in the coming weeks. Swifties also loves to think about the future, and fans are now eagerly awaiting the “Taylor’s Version” re-recording of her “Reputation” album.
