Graduation will be on May 24, 2024, at 7 p.m. at the Maverik Center.
Gael Franco (12) was super surprised that it’s going to be so late. Franco might have to call out of work just to make it to graduation. He doesn’t think it’s a good idea because people will start getting tired around that time and it will probably be dark when it’s over.
He makes a good point, because if graduation ends at 10 p.m., people won’t be able to take pictures outside like they usually do after the ceremony. Some seniors will just work the day of graduation, and others will ask for the whole day off. Students might have to get ready early in the day. Or they might dress up right before the ceremony so they can look fresh in pictures before the ceremony on the steps at the Maverick. There is so much to think about with it being that late in the afternoon.
“It’s pretty interesting that it’s so late in the day. Since graduations are pretty long, I would probably do something before the ceremony or the next day,” Jade Gonzalez (12) said. Most people would probably do something early in the day like go eat breakfast. And most food places might be closed by the time the Granger ceremony is over. It will be an awkward schedule to have a party before or after.
It won’t be convenient for most people. They’d want all their loved ones to attend and congratulate them on such a big milestone, but with the schedule it might be hard. “I think they should change it to the morning just so I can get it over with and enjoy my day,” Kathy Quinones (12) said.
There might also be a problem with teachers showing up that late in the day, because it’s out of their work hours, and they’re technically getting invited. Some might not want to start their Memorial Day weekend late.
Most seniors think it’s pretty late and would like it to be earlier.
There might be some people who would like to keep it at that time because seniors can also take that time before the ceremony to go and take lots of pictures with their family.
They can also go hang out with their high school best friends for the last time as high schoolers. And while there are different opinions, it’ll be excited for the seniors to take this next step in their lives.
