Lancers holds doors open every day

Javier is quick to hold open doors.

Does it bother Lancers when another student or maybe even a staff member doesn’t hold open the door for those walking in behind them?

There is a student who is there for Lancers walking in and out of school, even giving out encouraging words as they pass by. His name is Javier Hernandez (9), and he’s just trying to spread some kindness.

“The reason why I open the door is to show people that there is still good in life even through the good and the bad. Just because I can’t be there for people mentally, I can be there to show up, tell everyone to have a good day and God bless you,” Hernandez said.

When seeing someone help another, some may think that they are just looking for something in return. Others may think they are just doing it out of the kindness of their hearts. What does Hernandez get out of it? “I don’t think I get anything out of it, just some smiles and sometimes dirty looks. I do it for everyone,” Hernandez said.

Some may wonder why Hernandez says “Have a good day. God bless you.” His reason for saying this is that “People have their own beliefs, I’m Christian, I understand other religions have their own beliefs and I have my own belief. I just hope everyone has a good day and knows that God loves them so much,” Hernandez said.

No matter the belief or message Hernandez brings to those passing by, Lancers all need a little bit of kindness each day. The simple act of holding the door open for someone else can make a difference in that person’s day.
