AS 2026 starts, everyone has been bringing back the 2016 aesthetic all over social media.
With people saying they’re gonna bring back their 2016 look/aesthetic. Such as bringing back the pink filter, recording themselves to popular songs from 2016, or doing their 2016 makeup look. A really popular song from the time is “Closer- The Chainsmokers ft. Halsey”. It was the #1 song on Billboard’s Hot 100.
A famous girl, Luyu Yang, and a famous guy, Alex Zhu, created the app Musically in 2014. Musically, in 2014-2015, it was popular worldwide. You’d see so many videos of people lip-singing, belly dancing, dabbing, and even just recording themselves doing water bottle flips.
Musically, influencers would show all kinds of videos, and everyone would follow every single trend.
One of everyone’s favorites was the Killer Clown YouTube videos. A person would put on a clown costume, while the other person would act like they were scared or being chased. Now, if you watched those Killer Clown videos, I know you thought they were real. Unfortunately, I always thought they were real. These videos were huge hits all around YouTube.
One of my favorite trends of 2016 definitely has to be the Glow Up trend. You’d draw a unibrow on yourself and make fake pimples all over your face with lotion. You’d stick two or one Qtips in your nose and make an ugly face.
Now you had to use one specific song, this song was called “Omi- Cheerleader (Felix Jaehn Remix)”. You’d record yourself at 2x speed with the pink filter. I would always do this trend with my sister, and it was our all-time favorite.
A super popular makeup trend was 2016 makeup/brows, or dying your hair a different color. A huge source of inspo for these trends was Kylie Jenner, who was known as ‘King Kylie’ during this era. She would wear teal, pink, blonde, and more colors in her wigs. She would draw on super dark and thick brows in 2016, causing girls all around the world to want to do the same, and calling them the ‘2016 brows.’
Beyond brows, some girls would even dye their hair a bunch of colors at once. Most girls would dye their whole head pink, purple, and blue, or even have just a strand with all three colors.
So, why are people bringing back the 2016 vibes? Recently, all over TikTok, girls have been dyeing their hair different colors and saying that this year will be their 2016 year.
Girls have been doing their nails with Victoria’s Secret designs, polka dots, stripes, and calling them 2016. I’ve seen so many TikTok creators doing the Glow Up trend from 2016. Girls have been belly dancing, and it has gone viral because of the nostalgia.
Buy those skinny jeans or LED shoes, buy those shopkins we all loved and wish we still had, or those squishies we would all beg our parents to buy us because they were all over YouTube and Musically, but most of all, go dye that hair.
If you really loved 2016 and wish you could go back, make it your 2016 year.
