A COUPLE of good friends and I decided to go out and watch the Utah Jazz vs. the Sacramento Kings game on February 11th. Half of the people in my group were going for the Jazz, and the other half were for the Kings. To even things out, I decided to root for the Kings as well.
We showed up to the game a few minutes late, and there was a 2-point difference: the Jazz were in the lead with 12, and the Kings were at 10. Now, I wasn’t familiar with the players on the Sacramento team; I only knew some of the Jazz, so I was mostly rooting for whoever had the ball. The Jazz were on fire overall during the game, making shot after shot.
The Kings were still putting on a good game for the Jazz, but couldn’t quite keep up in scoring for too long. I watched as the 2-point gap widened into a 5-, 10-, then 20-point gap, and eventually even a 30-point gap, all in the first half of the game. As soon as I saw the Jazz reach over 100 points while the Kings were still in the 70s, I knew who was winning, but I was still rooting for the Kings to pull a comeback.
The score ended with the Jazz at 121 and the Kings at 93. Although the point gap was still wide, it was closer than in the 3rd quarter. During each break, my group and I enjoyed watching the performer Peter Rabbit play the drums, and the King’s Dancers’ performance was fun as well. In fact, while getting food during halftime, we went back just to watch Peter Rabbit play before grabbing our order.
Speaking of the order, we got burgers from a place I’ve never tried before. We ordered the signature burger, which was really good. The burger and the bun were both fresh. On our way back to our seats, another person and I in the group found good churros. However, I didn’t bring my card with me, only cash, and I couldn’t really buy anything, so I had to pay my friend later. Pro tip for any students who accidentally bring only cash: at the stadium, they have these kiosks where you can transfer your cash into a card that you can use to pay for concessions, something I tragically didn’t find out until after we bought the churros.
During one of the performances, an ad would display a free Swig if you played this basketball-flappy-bird-type game. Half of my group started playing, but unfortunately, they didn’t win free Swig. I didn’t play to save my phone battery.
Near the start of the game, the announcer said that if the home team made a three-pointer in the fourth quarter, the audience would be able to get some free Chick-fil-A. My group was stoked for this, and so was I. The audience didn’t get that free Chick-fil-A, but the game was still fun. From the 1st to the last quarter of the game, the experience and energy of the crowd were ecstatic and contagious. Afterwards, my group all went out to McDonald’s before heading back home.
