“SWEEP out the halls, Lancers.” The tardy sweeps are finally here at Granger. It’s time to skip class somewhere off campus. There’s nothing the admins hate more than students roaming the halls. It’s time to start going to class early and not distract other Lancers with your screams. Personally, I struggle to get up for school, so this could be a challenge for me as well as for most of you.
The tardy sweep was implemented to encourage students to arrive early for class and to avoid being in the halls. The way they have organized this at Granger is that, after 10 minutes, when the bell rings, they block the doors and make tardy students walk into the alum room. After students enter the alumni room, they make them take out their phones and Yondr pouches. YES, you have to put your phone in the Yonder pouch, and YES, they make you turn it on. Sorry, Lancers, not even a trap phone can help during this situation.
If you really think about it, we have a total of 16 minutes to get to class tardy before it’s considered a pit stop. We have six minutes to go to class and 10 minutes before they start the pit stop. This means our excuses for getting to class might not be as valid anymore, but hey, that means we can get more creative about avoiding trouble.
The pit stop is not only for kids who are late to class, but also for kids roaming the halls without hall passes. This means that if you are caught in the hallways, you might be directed to the pit stop.
When signing in to the pit stop, if you don’t have your phone, you will have to sign a different Google form saying that you either don’t have a pouch or a phone. This form will send a message to your parents saying that you don’t have a phone or a pouch. If you do have your phone and pouch, you can skip that part and sign in to the pit stop Google form. This tracks who was at the pit stop that day. So let’s start charging those trap phones just to keep it safe.
Every time you enter the pit stop, there is a consequence. Don’t worry, though; it restarts every week. So if you’re in the pit stop once a week, you will restart from the beginning. There are five consequences for the five times you can get caught arriving late to class. The consequences vary depending on the number of times you’re there: 1) Phone will be secured, Lunch detention, and focus entry. 2) Office hold, Truancy fine, and Parent notification. 3) Parent pick-up, overnight suspension, and truancy ticket. 4) Immediate suspense and a parent conference. 5) Attendance and phone Contract, and Device prohibited.
So realistically, if you are 20 minutes early, you’re on time. If you’re on time, you’re late, and if you’re late, then you’re selling yourself into the pitstop. Although many may not like this idea, it could be a chance to become better students. Even if that means not distracting others while people are in class, so maybe stay open with the idea. Everything has a reason behind it.
