GRANGER High offers many fun after-school activities and sports for students, including Clubs, Sports, Dances, etc. Students at Granger have a wide range of options, including swimming. The Granger swim team is full of excellent and passionate swimmers. The team offers opportunities for new and experienced swimmers, and everyone is welcome!
The swim team is welcoming to new swimmers and anybody ready to try something new. Usually, students overlook swimming as a sport to do at school, but Itzel Gonzalez (11) has a different opinion. “It’s my first year, but we’ve been doing well. We are improving slowly – I like how it’s a chill, not crazy sport,” Gonzalez said. Swimming is offered to all students at Granger, and whether they are new to Swimming or not, it’s an excellent opportunity to try it out! “Most people don’t like the idea of joining the swim team, but I don’t think it’s too bad,” Gonzalez said.
First-year swimmers have improved so much since starting. Swimming is a great first sport for some people to try, and it’s a fun activity that helps create great memories and relationships. “The season is going great – I would recommend swimming to anyone who likes to swim in their free time,” Katlyn Ostler (10) said.
Not only does the swim team create relationships and friendships with your peers, but it is also a great place for exercise and self-improvement! “I could barely do a 15 when I first started, now I can easily do a 200! I started my sophomore year, and I like how the sport teaches teamwork and connectivity,” Jesus Dominguez (11) said. Dominguez is in his second year of swimming at Granger and has had many positive experiences with his teammates, the practice, and the heartfelt commitment to the sport. “There were small hiccups along the way, such as the canceled council meeting, but we got through it, and it’s going great so far,” Dominguez said.
Former Granger swimmers have also worked with the team. “My parents put me in swim classes to learn how to swim. In your last lesson, the coaches from the club kind of scout you out – They offered me to join and I did,” Yuritzi Linares (12) said. Linares has been on the swim team for four years now, but has been swimming for longer! The team has been improving at every meeting. “Even though it’s a complicated sport, it’s fairly straightforward, and a lot of people can help you. So you could do the minimum and still win,” Linares said.
“The sport is a great way to make new friends and even get more active,” Hannah Huish (10) said. Huish is the manager of the swim team, and it is her second year. She has seen improvement within the team and is happy to be a part of it all. Although swimming seems like a complicated sport, it really isn’t, and all swimmers advise everyone to try it.
