THROUGH difficult times, there’s one thing everyone needs. FOOD! Granger High School administration goes through many trials to make sure that every student eats. “Even during COVID, food was provided throughout everything,” Joshua Adams, a vice principal, said.
One administrator, Ryan Gardner, a guidance clerk, has been popular with students for giving out different kinds of snacks. He is in the counseling center and is usually met by different kids asking for snacks. Whether those snacks are small or big, he does his best to help out.
“It breaks my heart that some students have to come to us for food, but I’m just glad that we have the resources to provide that,” Gardner said.
There are many ways to be the change that the world needs to see.
Some students worry about where or what their next meal will be. Granger wants to be a place where they don’t have to worry about that stuff. There are so many different ways to get food at Granger. Clubs like LIA and LAT often don’t rest until they can help provide for the G-house community. In December, social workers Liv and Mindy organized a hoodie drive to keep students warm during winter. Kids piled into the alumni room to get their pick.
At the Granite school’s kitchen department, local businesses often bring donations to help families in need. Bakeries, companies, and charities work together to help students.
On Granger High School’s website, there is a webpage dedicated to applying for free and reduced lunch. This can help students pay less for lunch and worry less about their spending at school. With free lunches, all students who sign up can eat without worrying about paying later, which can be a huge help.
