THE GRANGER Lancer girls basketball team is entering a new season with a new hunger and intensity. They are ready to prove they will win. For these Lady Lancers, it’s about proving to not only others, but also themselves that they have what it takes to improve their abilities and reach their goals. They are ready to take their team to the regions and playoffs.
Coach Manny set some goals at the beginning of the season. “I want to build chemistry, discipline, and set a standard for how we want to play all year. If we can build good habits now in communication and competition, the wins will come. We’ve got a few of our returners ready to take on more leadership, and we’ve got younger players who are showing they can contribute,” he said
Coach Foster agrees that raising the standard through discipline, effort, and teamwork shows they’re aligned on building a focused, committed group that can reach its full potential. “Like what Manny said, I want to set the standard. We’re not settling for just ‘good enough’ this year. I want discipline, effort, and accountability from day one. If we can lock in on those things early, everything else will fall into place. We’ve got athletes, we’ve got speed, and we’ve got a lot of hungry players. When the team wants to compete and wants to win, that’s what makes a difference,” he said.
Allyson Lopez (11) is confident in her team. “I want to win and help the team get along. I really want to improve on being a teammate that my team can rely on, so when the seniors leave, it won’t be as stressful for the other girls, and I can help them and build a good relationship with each other, and we can reach our goals together,” she said.
Miranda Chap (11) has high hopes for this year’s team. “I think we will be successful this season because we have a different drive this year. I motivate the team, encourage my teammates, and help them solve their problems. I want to improve my defense, endurance, communication, and stamina because I know these attributes will help the team, even if it’s small. I want my team to make it to the playoffs and region with the help of my improvement,” she said. Chap’s focus on motivating teammates and improving herself helps her feel connected to her team and focused on success.
Yom Mapu (11) shares the same goal of making it to the playoffs. “My expectations are high for myself and my teammates as long as we are pushing each other to our limits and holding each other accountable. If we do that, I’m sure we can win most of our games. I want us to make it to the first round of playoffs, and I know we can do that by holding each other accountable. One thing I know I could improve on is being able to dribble the ball better than I was last year because I know that will help the team’s success,” she said.
The Lady Lancer’s overall drive, determination, and teamworking skills will help them reach the regions, and they are ready for their next challenge.
