FASHION is everything to students. It’s about expression and creativity. Throughout the hallways at Granger High, students love to observe each other’s style.
Natalia Vega (12) noticed her love for UGGs has come back. “I think UGGs are such a big fall staple, they’re the most comfortable shoe, and they go with everything,” Vega said. As students continue to get inspired in the hallways, they also see fashion items they don’t like. One piece of clothing Vega doesn’t want to see back is skinny jeans. “Skinny jeans need to be left behind. They’re ugly and uncomfortable. I think they need to be flared to be stylish,” she said. For Vega, fashion is about comfort, confidence, and knowing when to say goodbye to specific trends — skinny jeans included.
Another big trend in the fall is statement pieces. Fall outfits aren’t anything without them, but many students want to see more. “I want to see more jewelry, long jewelry, and gold mixed with silver,” MiTaZin Phyu (12) said. Statement pieces are what make up an outfit and leave a lasting impression.
Throughout the hallways, everyone likes to display their own individuality in style. “Tims aren’t cute in general, because some people don’t style them well, but they can be styled right,” Phyu said. Fashion is also about criticism, “Something I think needs to go is that pair of big red boots from Balenciaga,” Phyu said. It seems some pieces of clothing and fashion trends need to be styled correctly to appeal to most and draw positive attention.
Most students really like expressing their feelings through fashion. Dahlia Elizabeth Dealba (12) says that her style helps her display what fashion means to her. She wants to see more this fall season. “I definitely want to see more textures, lace, babydoll tops, embroidery, and embellishments, political stances, and cultural attire through our daily clothing,” she said. For Dealba, Clothing can really make a statement, whether it’s an outfit that shows off her style or one that reveals more about her culture or political stance.
Others feel each fashion item is unique and expression is for all. “There isn’t a particular thing that I like to see. I think everybody’s unique in their own ways, and I like to see everyone’s different senses of style,” Breanna Maldonado (12) said. Fashion for Maldonado is about being unique and having individuality.
The hallways are runways of expression at Granger High. There are certain clothing items students love to see. One fashion item Maldonado would love to continue seeing is multicolored sambas. “I like it when people wear different colored sambas, I think they’re really in style and love to see people with different colorways,” Maldonado said. She says there’s a lot of liberty and expression in statement shoes.
Some trends are here to stay, but students also think some can remain in the past. Each new season delights Lancers wanting to see more trending fashion in the hallways. As the seasons change, fashion ‘ins’ and ‘outs’ change, too.
