STUDENTS don’t realize they are putting their learning in jeopardy when they miss even one day; they can miss important information, such as due dates, new assignments, new seating charts, and more.
An anonymous student was skipping class because it was a class they didn’t want to attend. “The class I am supposed to be in right now is business. I didn’t choose it, but I was still given it. Skipping is not something I’m familiar with. I just got here late, so I decided to sit out instead of going into class late. I see no problem with students skipping a whole day if they have good grades, but if they aren’t passing the class, then I think they should go because it’s not hard at all to pass a class, especially if you always go to class,” Anonymous Sophomore 1 said.
A lot of students skip to hang out with friends. “This is my first year of high school. If I fail, I have three other years to catch up, so right now I’m just enjoying hanging out with my friends. I don’t skip all the time, but I do when I have tests or something boring like that to do because I hate school,” Anonymous Freshman 1 said.
Others may skip school simply because they are already passing, so they don’t think they need to go. “I am skipping because I have all A’s. I only have three classes this year and I am passing them all, so there is no reason for me to be in class right now,” Anonymous Senior 1 said. Grades are significant to him, so if they don’t drop, he doesn’t think skipping class is a problem. “I am still going to keep my grade up and make sure I graduate, but today I was lazy and heard we were going to be learning about colleges in my English class, but I know I don’t wanna go to college, so it was useless for me to go to class and would’ve just been a waste of my time. I don’t skip all the time, only when I don’t need to go and when we are just going to be catching up on old assignments, but all of mine are done,” he said.
Some students skip to hang out with friends at McDonald’s. “I just want to hang out with my friends, which is the only reason why I’m not in class right now. My math class is boring, and I don’t understand anything we are learning. I like my teacher, just not math. I will probably go on Thursday since I haven’t been in three days, but I’m gonna go to McDonald’s right now. I am currently failing math and woods, but I can make up math later, and woods is an elective, so it doesn’t matter. I am honestly already tired of the school year. I am ready for summer again,” Anonymous Sophomore 2 said.
