GIRLS Tennis has started the season with multiple wins and has more to come! During their season, they don’t just play, they bond. Some of their team bondings include swimming, Galentines, Christmas parties, and so much more.
Hamda Aden (11) is really enjoying her time on the team. “I’m loving tennis so far! Our game at Cyprus was great, the team was full of amazing people. It might be corny, but it’s more than just a sport; it’s family,” she said.
Aden has been playing tennis since her sophomore year. She says her experiences have been great and would recommend it to underclassmen who are interested in joining a sport.
Something the girls focus on is their physical conditioning and how to achieve fitness goals.
“It’s really good for your body and you get really good bonds with people,” Aerika Campbell (11) said. Campbell joined tennis in late June. She said her time has been going great and the people are amazing, recommending everyone to join for the next 2026-2027 season. Tennis is not only a game but a way to work on your personal goals and meet new people on the court!
“The season is going great, more losses than wins, but that’s okay! Having a fun time is all that matters,” Christy Nguyen (12) said. “It’s an active sport, easy to learn — it’s all technical skills,” Nguyen said. As one of the captains of the team, she is proud to be there for her teammates and welcomes others willing to join. Their coach being there for the girls throughout it all has been one of the things keeping them going!
The girls are learning ways of guidance and influence when they are with their teammates. “We are learning good stuff, like leadership,” Brianna Nguyen (11) said. “For the overall season, I think everyone is still new, but I think the season will be good,” Nguyen says. Still going strong and continuing on their hard work, the girls are planning their senior night, while having a home game that same day!
Even though Granger offers multiple sports such as football, soccer, baseball, etc. Tennis seemed to catch Zahra Vardak’s (11) attention. “I always wanted to try a sport, but I didn’t know exactly what to join, and tennis was just kind of one of those things that came up randomly — and I found fun in it,” Vardak said.
She has been playing tennis for about two years now, going to three! The court is open to everyone, having a girls tennis team as well as a boys team! One thing Vardak mentioned was the development team. If you aren’t interested in the games but are interested in going to the activities, that might just be the thing for you!
