MATCHA has become a sensation all over the internet! Matcha is a finely ground powder made from shade-grown green tea leaves. Matcha can be enjoyed in many ways — served as a warm tea, a latte, soft-serve ice cream, in baked goods, or even prepared traditionally in a tea ceremony. It offers several benefits, including support for weight management, improved skin health, and enhanced brain function. Matcha comes in different grades, from ceremonial quality to culinary grade. Culinary matcha is the most used for everyday servings.
Danna Lopez (12) enjoys drinking matcha occasionally. “I love matcha. I started drinking it about two years ago. I would say it has become really popular. I like getting matcha lattes from Starbucks, 85 Bakery, Azucar Cafe, and Chinatown. I would definitely recommend all of them,” Lopez said.
Keqin Chen (11) loves matcha! She would consider herself a matcha enthusiast. “I like it! I’m a matcha person. I’ve been drinking it since I was in elementary school. I would say it has always been popular, and I buy it from cafes or boba shops. I would recommend Matcha Cafe Kyoto, they have the best matcha,” Chen said. Chen added that matcha from her hometown in China and in the U.S. isn’t too different. “Matcha is matcha,” Chen said.
Minh Tong (12) is a matcha lover. “I love matcha. I started drinking it not too long ago. I don’t think something can be too popular — I actually love that more restaurants have it on their menus now. To make my own matcha, I buy it from Amazon, and I also get matcha drinks from Starbucks,” Tong said.
Ashley Cantua (11) is also a matcha fan. “I love matcha. I started drinking it around two years ago and the first time I tried it was at a cafe and I fell in love with it! Matcha has gotten so popular nowadays which I am quite glad about because now it’s sold more and it can be found easier. I buy my matcha from Chinatown — I recommend buying it there or online. Do your research so it’s real and not fake matcha, the greener and smoother the better!” Cantua is known as the biggest matcha lover of her friend group and is proud of it!
