STUDENTS can sign up for online classes throughout the school year. Each course offers the opportunity to earn 0.25 credits and must be completed by the end of the year to receive credit. These courses are also available during the summer.
There are many courses to choose from, but Granger High School offers only the following: Driver Education, General Financial Literacy, U.S. Government and Citizenship, 9th Grade Physical Education, Fitness for Life, Computer Technology, U.S. History/World Civilization, Secondary Math 2, Earth Systems, Health, Astronomy, Wildlife Biology, and Geography for Life.
Online classes are a great way to earn credits faster or make up a previously failed course required for graduation. Most students take online courses to graduate early, or to avoid going to summer school.
Online courses are great for people that like to do work on their own and set their own pace for completing course work. Students have the entire semester to complete the course. On average, most students complete online courses within four weeks. It all just depends on the class itself, and the individual’s motivation. Some courses take longer than others, and some are easier than others.
I would say it’s a good way to get credits faster and to stay ahead in school. They’re also helpful if students want to catch up on credits, prefer to take a class online instead of in person, or hope to graduate a year early. I found it very easy, but I tended to procrastinate — so if that is a struggle, I wouldn’t recommend it.
The course is set up so that students must complete each assignment before moving on to the next. After finishing all assignments, students must pass a final exam to receive full credit for the class.
Students can communicate with their online teachers and ask questions about assignments.
These courses also show a rubric on what grade you may get on how much you do for each assignment. To take an online class, students will have ask a counselor for the registration forms and discuss the best options for academic success. There is also a fee for every class. Every class is around $50, and the fee can be paid at the financial office.
There is no limit to how many online classes students are allowed to take.
If a student prefers to work at their own pace, and can stay on top of assignments, taking more than two online courses can be manageable. However, those who struggle with completing work might consider starting off with just one to see if online classes are a good fit. Once online classes are paid for, failing to pass means the class must be retaken at full cost, as no refunds are given. Online courses are a great option for students; speak to a counselor to learn more and discuss next steps.
