GRANGER High School has been a place that allows students to begin their day with friends, favorite classes, or just the opportunity to walk around the school and clear their minds. Even though Granger aims to provide students with a variety of resources to help curate their future, some students have decided to go against the rules here. Let’s take a closer look at what people are saying about Granger.
Starting with Ms. Sherman, a counselor who possesses a great sense of joy from working here and helping students reach their goals. When asked if she preferred anywhere else than Granger, she simply commented, “If I applied somewhere else, I would be bored out of my mind,” Ms. Sherman said. Her commitment to her students is far from anywhere else, as she is here to stay.
While the staff are committed to what they do here at Granger, some of the students are just here to enjoy the moment and look forward to seeing what Granger has in store for them. This includes Samuel Maae (12). He has seen Granger grow and face new challenges over the four years he’s been here. He has enjoyed his time as a Lancer.
Granger has provided Maae with an incredible education, and the opportunity to learn from caring teachers. He is grateful for the friends he has made, and he is excited for the future. “Granger is a great place because I can see my friends,” he said. He takes pride in being a great friend.
Students spend four very formative years in high school as they prepare for graduation. It’s a time of change and growth in academics and personality, so it’s important to gather perspectives not only from long-term Lancers but also from freshmen.
The freshmen have only been at Granger for two months, so their opinions are still very fresh. Yaneli Lopez Ramirez (9) has taken the time to finally have her mind clear and allow her thoughts to gather. With her time here just beginning, she feels that Granger is a personal haven. “I prefer to do volleyball, and I have good grades to do it,” she said.
Overall, attitudes towards Granger appear to vary wildly across the board. Some aspects of Granger, such as FLEX time, may work for some, others may find them a nuisance. However, no policy will please everyone, and as such, this variance in opinion like this is healthy for a student body as diverse as Granger High.
