SNEAKERHEAD Enzo Munyaneza (12) says Jordan 4s and white-on-white Air Forces are competing head-to-head because they are getting overused and are the most popular shoes at the moment.
“Shoes stand out to me in the halls,” he said. He has been mostly seeing guys wear Air Forces and Jordan 4s. Girls, on the other hand, wear more Jordan 1s and closed-toe sneakers. He knows what other shoes are making a comeback and rising in Granger’s shoe game, too. His answer: Sambas and Birkenstocks. These two brands of shoes have been seen in the halls more and more with students rockin’ them with their daily fits.
“I like both, but Sambas are more comfortable.” Munyaneza said.
Kris Bonilla (12) is another sneakerhead. “I feel like Air Forces and Jordan 4s would be the top two, everybody wants a pair or everybody has a pair,” he said. His opinion is the same for a guy’s most popular shoes, but feels like the Sambas are seen more on girls. Although they have been around for a long time, not many have worn them because they were mostly worn for only football.
Bonilla says that New Balance are the underdogs and just now coming up in Granger’s footwear. He’s seen a lot of New Balance 505s in the halls, and they work for everyone.
Equally balancing out the style, Mr. Adams had a different opinion. “Air Forces were popular last year. People loved those white-on-white Air Forces,” he said.
Everybody loved Air Forces last year, but yesterday is history. Now, the most popular shoes are Jordan 4s and Jordan 1s. People like the high top Jordans now, too. “My favorite pair of Jordan 4s are the Travis Scott Cactus Jacks,” Adams said. He says he sees Reeboks making a comeback and people seem to be wearing them, but he’s not a fan. “Reeboks are ugly, and they shouldn’t be brought back,” he said.
Reeboks aren’t the only ugly shoes gaining some traction.
“Dock Martens are so ugly,” Jackie Salazar (12) said. Right off the bat Salazar starts with hate. Don’t wear Docs around her. Anyone who does go around her would be better off wearing Military Black Jordan 4s. She likes her Military Blacks. She wears them often and prefers them over any other shoe she has.
She’s also watching the trends. “Tims became popular this year,” she said. She’s seeing a lot of kids with brown or black Tims, which makes them less underrated these days. But the Sambas and the Military Black Air Forces are still the most popular shoes in her opinion. “Sambas are getting worn more by girls than guys,” Salazar said. “And Air Forces coming up top as always.”
