VOLLEYBALL seniors are checking out of high school and are ready to say goodbye. Many have played volleyball only during their high school careers, some only for two years, since the team is so new. Although Granger has only had a boys volleyball team for two years, these Lancers have created many friendships and memories. They are prepared for the future and have a few things they would like to say to underclassmen.
“This team is new, and it’s only been around for two years, and the program is still new. I think it has a lot of potential,” Ky Hoang (12) said. “There are a lot of people coming in and trying out the sport, having fun. So if you want to join, just come in, we’re very welcoming. We’re all about having fun and friendship.” Hoang said. H has many fond memories, one of which is waiting nervously before every game.
Sometimes the best things about trying something new are the memories made or the people encountered. Mason Biddulph (12) says that sports are a great way to get to know people, have fun, and stay active at school. “If you like sports or have thought about trying it, just go for fun,” Biddulph said. Lancers can try many new things, and sports are something that interests Lancers, so they should try.
Enzo Munyaneza (12) offers a tip: “Don’t be nervous to try out. And especially when you’re playing, don’t be nervous, because it ruins your performance,” he said. Munyaneza says that listening to your coaches and respecting your teammates is very important. “Another tip I have is to work hard, push — it looks worse on you if you’re not pushing,” Munyaneza said. It’s tough, but athletes should strive to deliver a 100% effort every time.
“Do it for fun, send it. It’s not that deep, it’s never that deep. I joined because I thought it looked fun,” Ofakitahi Malohifoou (12) said. Malohifoou says that Lancers should try new things just for the fun of it. Malohifoou says that Lancers shouldn’t worry about being nervous; the most important thing is to have fun.
Kamuela Faamoe (12) says that for sports, specifically volleyball, Lancers should join early and work hard. “My favorite part is playing with the team and getting to know people, it’s just fun,” Faamoe said. Sometimes the best part of doing a sport isn’t actually playing it — it’s being a part of a team. Becoming part of a team is something everyone should try at least once.
Listen to the advice of these volleyball seniors because whether it’s that first year as a Lancer or one of the last, always try new things and push toward new goals. This can be applied in sports such as volleyball, but also in daily life. Make sure to check when sports are trying out if interested. Constantly pushing to become the best will help in everything. But always remember to have fun while doing it.
