FOR SENIORS, the end of high school is right around the corner and arriving fast. There is less than a month left before the school year is over. Apart from graduation at the Maverik Center at 9 a.m. on May 28, this last month of high school is packed full of events and activities to finish out the school year on a powerful note.
Many of these events are meant to celebrate students who have accomplished exceptional things during their four years of high school. Others are just meant to recognize all seniors, giving them a chance to enjoy and celebrate their last few weeks before graduation.
The senior awards night is one of the multiple senior-related events happening in May. This event is being held on May 20 at Granger High School and will begin at 6:00 PM in the Granger Commons. This event is meant to showcase and recognize seniors who have gone above and beyond with their education. It also celebrates other extracurriculars such as sports and the fine arts.
The event will include awards for the most proficient male and female athletes, along with a scholarship for each. Scholarships will be awarded to students who have been involved in and excelled within the art, theater, or music departments. Additionally, student government members will be celebrated, and those who have achieved merit awards, such as the Sterling Scholars will be recognized.
Another fun activity seniors should look forward to is senior sunset on the evening of May 23 in the football field. Not much information has been provided apart from a movie showing, but seniors should still look forward to this amazing celebration.
Seniors should also expect and be prepared for graduation practice and the touring of elementary schools. Both of these events take place on May 27 and are very important to finish the year strong. Graduation practice is required for all seniors to attend so they’re not lost on the day of graduation and know where they must be when the time arises.
To those seniors who have younger siblings or relatives, going on the elementary tours is very important. Walking down the hallways seeing all the students wave is something all seniors should experience. Especially as some elementary schools close their doors (Douglas, Orchard, Redwood, and Valley Crest) this year it’s important to visit them one last time to reminisce of the years spent there.
Additionally, seniors should look forward to the senior night social event, which is dedicated to celebrating seniors and letting them have a night of fun activities after their years of high school have finally come to a close.
Senior night, also referred to as senior breakout, will be held the same day as graduation, May 28, and will take place later that day. It will run from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. on May 29 at Granger High School.
According to Ms. Allison, the PTA president, food, snacks, and drinks will be provided at the event. There is going to be food provided from Panda Express and a Fizz-style soda station for those who enjoy dirty sodas. Not only will this event offer food, but it will also have activities and entertainment to participate in during the night.
Some of the activities include karaoke, Just Dance, and activities in the pool area, and for those who are more competitive or shy, there will also be laser tag, ping pong, and other games that will be hosted at the social. This event will be an amazing opportunity to interact and socialize with other graduates before going their separate ways. There will also be a photo booth provided to physically preserve those last memories of high school.
