GRANGER high Freshman Lancers set up a new spring-themed dance called morp dance for every grade to enjoy. Why morp? It’s prom spelled backward. Once upon a time, morp was a Halloween-themed girl’s choice dance with matching costumes and everything.
The freshman class officers planned the dance. “The dance was good, it was really fun, I enjoyed how the DJ played new songs, and everyone was involved,” Benjamin Vuckovic (9) said. “I liked the DJ a lot and how he played the box, which was one of my favorite songs.”
Vuckovic says that small changes might have made a difference. “The decor for the dance could’ve been better and more detailed, but overall, it turned out great. I also like how the theme was ‘Garden Gala,’ and the dance did give spring vibes,” he said.
“I thought the dance turned out better than expected. I was really surprised how we got a DJ on the last minute for the dance,” Strahinja Dragicevic (9) said.
“I think we could have prompted the dance a bit better by making skits and graphic posters. I also think we could’ve been more organized while planning and making the dance, but the team communicated really well.” Dragicevic said. “My favorite song that the Dj played was ‘Just Wanna Rock’ — I really liked that song,” he said while dancing around a little bit.
Despite that lack of advertising, the dance was well attended, but probably the smallest dance of the year. If morp continues into a tradition, its reputation should grow and increased attendance will follow.
“The dance was fun, it was slow at first — there were only a few people dancing at first, but at the end, everyone was having fun and dancing,” Manal Ahmed (9) said. Ahmed says the planning could have been prepared better. “I enjoyed the dance, and my favorite song played from the DJ was ‘Carnival’ — it was fun when the DJ played that song.”
“The dance was really fun. I saw people having fun and enjoying the dance,” Jamila Abukar (9) said. Abukar says that her favorite song that the DJ played was ‘Fein.’ “I thought planning the dance was hard because we were slow on everything. Decorating for the dance — gluing posters and having enough materials and decorations — was hard.” Abukar said. “
The team got through it. We all worked together and communicated well. At first, when I joined the team, I was shy to talk to them, but after a while, I was comfortable with them. They made me come out of my comfort zone.” Abukar said.
The dance went really well, and they all did an amazing job.
