HOW LONG is too long for a talking stage? The talking stage has become a huge part of dating. Many Lancers find it essential to be able to get to know that cute kid in class, whether they’re single or in a relationship, think it’s an important part of dating. They still have mixed opinions about it and how long a talking stage should be.
Alex Villalobos (11) has been dating his girlfriend for around seven months and talked to her for five months. Although he’s in a happy relationship, he still has his opinions on the talking stage. “I think it’s important because you can’t go straight into dating. It’s important to get to know the person and whether you like them and how they would act if you were dating them,” Villalobos said.
Villalobos says that the period when he and his girlfriend were in the talking stage was a good duration for a talking stage because it wasn’t too long, nor was it too short. He was able to have time to get to know his girlfriend and decide whether he wanted to continue with the next stage that comes after the talking stage, which is him asking her to be his girlfriend.
Along with the talking stage come certain rules that Lancers either hate or follow in this stage. Many Lancers also believe in the three-month rule, while others seem to agree with it. Lancers also believe that when in a talking stage, no other romantic options should be explored while in this stage. Talkers, so to speak, shouldn’t be giving that same energy to other people after they’re giving it to a someone in a talking stage.
Ethan Vu (11) says that when in a talking stage, it’s OK for them to have friends and get to know other people. Vu says that the three-month rule is a dumb rule that doesn’t have any meaning to it. “I find the three-month rule to be dumb because if you were friends beforehand, it shouldn’t take three months to get to know each other,” Vu said. He has been with his girlfriend for nine months and continues to believe that it is a dumb rule.
As will all rules about teen dating, opinions are mixed.
“The talking stage is important because it allows you to see the person in a different light than how you used to see them,” Anthony Vergara (11) said. He holds a firm belief that the talking stage is important, but it can also be a waste of time. Vergara says not all talking stages lead to relationships, so having a talking stage would be a waste of time because you wouldn’t end up with that person at the end of the day.
Many Lancers have become familiar with the talking stage and the helpful ways that it can help a relationship start. While many believe the talking stage is good, others still believe it can be a useless rule depending on the time spent and how long people have known each other.
