122 MILLION people click on YouTube each day, but it’s not all that popular in the halls of Granger High. Lancers usually gravitate towards apps such as TikTok and Instagram — YouTube is usually never mentioned as someone’s go-to app in the hallways. Lots of people say that they watch YouTube when they’re about to eat or when they’re bored.
“I watch YouTube every day: when I eat, before bed or in between games for at least 1-2 hours. Personally, I like a YouTuber named CoryxKenshin and my favorite video from him is Poppy Play Time Part 3,” Adnan Fisic (10) said. CoryxKenshin’s typical content includes gaming videos. He showcases his humorous jokes and his great gaming skills.
Hannah Altamirano (10) says she likes to watch YouTube because it’s a great background soundscape for when she’s doing something like chores. “Boze vs. the World makes videos on female murders, and instead of focusing on victims, she tells the events leading up to said events, and she’s also funny.” She is a very unknown YouTuber seeming to only get around 500K views each video. Altemirano says that her favorite video from Boze is her reaction to a court hearing on terrible parents.
“I would have to say my favorite YouTuber is ImDontai because I like music, and I like how he reviews it. He also helps me expand my music taste,” Tyson Martinez (10) said. YouTube can be great for people to learn about new things. Kids can search up anything on YouTube, and they will get a video that could help them or help them learn more about a topic like music. Martinez also said he liked when ImDontai reviewed the whole Carti album — it made Martinez realize how the album was much better than he first thought.
“I say I watch YouTube more often than I should, but my favorite YouTubers are Smosh because they are really funny and nostalgic,” Violet Overson (10) said. Watching old videos from old YouTubers can bring that feeling of nostalgia and comfort. Overson says her favorite video from them is the Death Note one because it was funny and random. Smosh is an old YouTube channel that has impacted many others with a sense of humor and personality that isn’t boring.
These Lancers also agree that the famous YouTuber Mr. Beast is overrated because of his content. Fisic says Mr. Beast is lame and boring; his videos are all the same and repetitive. Many people agree with this because his content has not changed over many years. Mr. Beast is a creator known for giving money away during challenges but over the years all the challenges seem the same.
YouTube is a very great platform for teens to rely on when they need to know anything educational or just to watch for fun. When kids want entertainment during a quick meal, watching a favorite YouTubers or their favorite videos is a great option. Although YouTube isn’t as popular as it used to be, many Lancers still follow specific YouTubers.
