MANY LANCERS aspire to be stable in life, and they do so by finding an interest in a career and pursuing it through college. Although that may not be the case for everyone, that’s OK, too. However, all high school students still stand in the same boat asking, “What classes can I take to get more involved with what I want to do in life?”
This is where the Granite Technical Institute (GTI) comes in. GTI offers a variety of courses to choose from: plumbing, dentistry, medical assistance, and many more. Apart from all the hands-on experience at the institute, students have a chance to become part of an externship or internship.
Violet Vazquez (11), who is taking dental assisting at the institute, recommends that students take courses at GTI. “It gets you to meet others and be part of an externship and maybe even get a job while doing it,” she said.
If that isn’t already a good reason to join GTI, here is another. Students expand their learning greatly by immersing themselves in the curriculum and learning to socialize with others. “This class has expanded my learning a lot and made me become more social, and I also got lots of hands-on experience rather than being in a chair taking notes,” Vazquez said. Therefore, students can have a good time in these classes, too.
Angelica Vargas (11), who takes construction trades at the institute, says that teachers are very useful at GTI. “I’ve gotten lucky with the teachers I’ve had. They are willing to help me out,” she said. There is nothing better than having teachers who enjoy helping their students. Good bonds with teachers create a better environment for students to learn.
Another perk of enrolling in a GTI course is the certification. “You gain certifications out of the class if you pass the tests. The tests can be difficult, although if you study the modules, it’s fine,” Elizabeth Navarrete (11) said. Even if the certification tests can be rigorous, they’re not impossible to pass, which should be more of a reason for students to push themselves to do well on those certification tests.
GTI classes require a few sacrifices. For those morning classes at GTI during first period, students need to catch an early morning bus to get to the institute. Students should make the effort to take classes at the Granite Technical Institute to not only challenge themselves, but to get closer to what they aspire to do. It is a great opportunity to make friends and learn at the same time. They also have a strong support system, the staff, who are willing to help no matter what.
