MEET GRANGER High’s new principal, Jared Wright, who served as principal of West High for the last five years He will replace Principal Tyler Howe in the 2025-26 school year when Howe starts his new job as an assistant superintendent for the district.
Wright was born and raised in Salt Lake, where he not only principled at West, but also attended West as a high school student. And that’s where he met his now wife: in his first class on that first day. Wright continued to the University of Utah for his bachelor’s, Utah State for his master’s, and then to BYU for his doctorate. Wright and his wife live in Salt Lake City and have five children. He loves spending time hiking with them in the mountains, riding bikes, and vacationing to Bear Lake.
Although Wright has experience at West High, becoming principal at Granger is his first job in the Granite School District. “This is my first time doing anything with Granite. I spent 20 years in the Salt Lake City School District, but this is my first time doing anything in the Granite School District, and I’m excited to be here, I’ve heard a lot of good things,” he said.
He expressed his excitement about moving to Granger, as it’s a bigger school than West. “I love school, I love high school and all the things that go on in a high school, and I love big places like Granger — 3000 kids — that’s a lot. Granger has quite a few more students than West,” he said.
Howe liked to run a lot of data about Granger to know what could be improved and what was or wasn’t working. Wright also likes tracking numbers. “I love data. I am excited and even a little nervous to follow Mr. Howe because he is so into numbers and statistics. I love it, too, but probably not as much as he does. I just love trying to make things better, and looking at data can tell us what we are doing right or wrong and help us drive what kind of decisions to make,” he said.
Wright believes in Lancers as students and wants to see them strive and wants to make their high school experiences memorable. “I believe in you as high school students and your ability to learn. I have hope in our future, in this community, and in the country because of you, and I hope to bring that belief and passion to Granger. I see it as my job to make sure your high school experience prepares you in every way possible to go out in the world,” he said.
Wright is thrilled to meet more of the Granger community. “I’m most excited to meet the students. I know my job is to work with teachers and everybody, but the students are what everything is focused on and the purpose of the whole thing. I’m really excited to get to know you guys. I’ve heard a lot about Granger and the student body there.”
Wright doesn’t seem to be nervous about much. “I guess the only thing I’m nervous about is the commute, I only live nine minutes away from West but like thirty minutes away from Granger. I’m not scared or nervous about anything, I’m just excited for the opportunity to get to know everyone,” he said.
Howe introduced Wright to Granger faculty, staff, and parents via an email. “I have had the privilege of working closely with Dr. Wright, and I couldn’t feel more confident that he is the right leader for our school. He already knows so much about Granger, and his excitement to join our community is truly inspiring,” he said. “Please join me in giving Dr. Wright a warm welcome to Granger High School!” Howe wrote.
