THE WONDERFUL Granger counselors won school counseling team of the year for the whole state of Utah! Every year, the Utah School Counseling Association (USCA) gives awards to counselors across the state. So far, the USCA has mainly just done a Best Counselor award and Best Rookie award. But now for the second year, they have done a best counseling team award, and Granger’s counselors won.
For these awards, it is done by judging blindly. So, when writing the applications to enter the competition,n they were not allowed to put or use any names of theirs or the schools. This is because then it is judged solely on the counseling team’s accomplishments and abilities. The counselors were notified of being nominated and of the competition on September 21, and the application was due by the 30th of September. They jumped on it!
Granger’s counseling team learned of their success in an email on November 14. “Ms. Oliver just yelled down the hallway, ‘We won!’ ,” Mrs. McMorrow said. She has been a counselor at Granger for four years now, and while she was very proud and happy, she was also surprised. Mrs. McMorrow said that she knows that they have a great program here, but there are also a lot of good programs out there, as well. “I know that they do a great jo,b and I’m happy that it was seen,” she said.
To all the counselors, this was a great and simple way to be seen for all their hard work. This wasn’t about winning to our counselors. “This just means we got recognized for all of our hard work, that it didn’t go unnoticed,” said Mrs. Candia. “This job is a lot of hard work, but all of us love what we do.”
