VOLUNTEER for Good is a newly developed program available at Granger High School. It is a program available for students who have been actively giving back to their community and for those who want to start making a difference. It recognizes students for their past volunteer work and encourages other students to volunteer as well. It may also open the doors for other opportunities many students can take advantage of.
It allows student volunteers to receive guidance on where they can volunteer and how to help in their community. It may also help students leave their comfort zone and communicate with others in their community and make changes to the community. This program will also help students build their confidence and school spirit, and on many occasions, it will give these students a sense of accomplishment and purpose.
Not only will it help students during high school, but it can also help them with any further education they desire to pursue. Besides helping students develop skills, volunteering provides scholarships and gains students internships to help fund their careers.
It can allow students to develop career and college readiness skills that will help them pass high school no matter what pathway they decide. Those communication and leadership skills will help them make their way past college-level education.
Volunteer for Good also offers a creative incentive for seniors who have volunteered in the past or who want to get involved in their community before they graduate.
They’re offering a graduation cord and graduation medallion for those students willing to push themselves to meet the requirements necessary. For seniors to receive a graduation cord, they must log fifteen hours of service and can also receive a certificate of service. Seniors may also earn a Graduation Medallion by completing a twenty-five-hour, school-approved service project that is long-lasting and impactful to the community.
There are many volunteering opportunities located in West Valley City and across Utah that students can take advantage of to help their community, even those with different interests and passions. Those invested in the environment can participate in park cleanups, tree painting, and community garden projects.
If you’re interested in animals, shelters and adoption events may be an amazing option as well as assisting in cleaning facilities. “No matter where students choose to volunteer, they can make a meaningful impact while gaining valuable experience,” Mrs. Candia de Garcia said in an online interview.
Many clubs and organizations here at Granger High School already offer and require students to volunteer in their community. Clubs and organizations such as Latinos in Action, Lancer Action Team, and Key Club are great opportunities for students to start their volunteering journey.
Students who want to get involved may visit the Granger High School website or talk to Mrs. Candia de Garcia in the counseling center on Tuesdays or Wednesdays during FLEX Time.
