The Clean Air Art Marketing Contest is a great opportunity for young artists to demonstrate the skills they have acquired throughout the year. The Clean Air Marketing Contest is held each year by the University of Utah. Its purpose is to use student artists’ help to promote sustainable transportation methods and reduce overall pollution in Utah. The contest encourages actions against air pollution while also supporting young artists.
The winners and finalists get prizes starting from fifty to three hundred dollars. These prizes are donated by local businesses. Around six thousand dollars were donated in the past years to be given away as prizes to winning submissions on both high school and state level entries. Around mid-January, each high school selects its winners and gives them fifty-dollar gift certificates. In the state-level ceremony, the prizes begin from one hundred dollars and go up to three hundred dollars.
Many Granger Lancers have participated and won as finalists in this contest. Many see this contest as an opportunity to both demonstrate their art skills and win a great prize. The student artists participating in this contest can deep dive into several different pollution-related areas. Many participants have referred to pop culture, humor, and even intimidation to make their art more effective in the decline of air-polluting habits.
