Granger High Lancers have a creative mindset when it comes to how they appear to others and how they express themselves. They create something unique that reflects their personality and gives off a vibe that complements their looks. There are various ways Lancers express themselves through makeup by showcasing individuality and diversity.
Emily Tenis (10) says doing makeup regularly can take up time but is also worth it. “I think doing makeup regularly has both taken up time and not at all. I usually spend 30-45 minutes doing my makeup. I think if you like to express yourself and have a certain way to do it, then it’s not a waste of time,” Tenis said. She believes makeup is a way to spread creativity, even if it isn’t always necessary. “My favorite step of my makeup is setting down my face with powder because it mattifies the look,” Tenis said.
Tenis says her favorite brand is Fit Me because it’s affordable and offers good coverage. “Double cleansing has helped me keep my skin healthy after doing my makeup every day,” she said. Tenis uses micellar water to remove her makeup, followed by PanOxyl and CeraVe face cleanser. “I recommend using a good powder to help keep your makeup stay on longer. I feel it’s most important to use the right one because if not, it will come off,” Tenis said.
“I don’t think makeup is a waste of time as it is something I love doing and it helps boost my confidence and makes me feel pretty,” Jazmine Jimenez (10) said. Jimenez says she does her makeup daily and removes it with makeup wipes before washing her face. “I take around an hour to 30 minutes if I feel like rushing myself in the mornings when I get ready,” she said. Her favorite step is contouring, and her go-to brands are LA Girl and Milani. “LA Girl has affordable prices, and for being a drugstore brand, I’d say they’re good quality. Same for Milani — not too expensive and not too cheap for a great product,” she said.
Jimenez recommends moisturizing before applying makeup to create a smooth base and help it stay on longer. She also suggests using a good setting spray, like the ONE/SIZE setting spray, and powder. “The things that make my makeup unique are my big eyeliner, putting dots with eyeliner under my eyes, and a half-purple eyebrow,” Jimenez said.
Aerika Campbell (10) says makeup is worth the time spent. “I don’t think makeup is a waste of time. If it’s something you want to do, you set an alarm to wake up each morning before school,” she said. Campbell’s finishing touch is applying mascara, which she says makes her eyes stand out after eyeshadow and eyeliner. “Altogether, my makeup takes up to 25 minutes each morning, but only because I like to take my time and not be rushed,” she said.
Campbell says she maintains her skin by avoiding base makeup. “I usually use micellar water to take off my eye makeup and wash my face with PanOxyl and an African black soap,” she said. Campbell recommends these products because they effectively combat acne and blackheads. “I do my makeup every day because it gives me a routine to stick to,” she said. Her favorite brand is L’Oréal Paris because of its high-quality mascaras and lipliners. “The products usually last me quite a while, and it’s decent quality for a drugstore product,” Campbell said.
