AT GRANGER High, several new rules and procedures have been implemented for students to follow this year, most notably the Yondr Pouches. These pouches allow students to experience a phone-free learning environment at school, reducing distractions during class and contributing to improved grades. These changes are among the most successful updates at Granger High, leading to significant improvements in grades, attendance, and behavior — including an almost 50% reduction in the number of fights.
One standout quality of Granger High is its diversity and size. With 3,481 students enrolled from 9th to 12th grades as of August 2024, Granger has the largest and most diverse student population in the state. Adriana Tamaura, an 11th-grader at Taylorsville High School, says Granger’s diversity makes it a unique and exceptional school. “Many people think that Granger isn’t a good school because when they think of Granger, they think of kids fighting and misbehaving,” she said. But that’s a lazy misconception.
Tamaura says she sees Granger as a good school filled with diverse students and believes no other school matches its level of diversity. “I know many people at Granger, and all of them are very good students. Students, for me, are a big way of how people view a school, and from what I’ve seen, Granger is a great school with many opportunities,” Tamaura said.
Granger High students believe the school is often misunderstood and not seen in its true light. Kellie Cotino (10) says, “Granger’s reputation is often perceived as really bad because people that come here have a lot to say about how we act and how we are taught,” she said. Cotino says she views Granger as a typical school offering numerous opportunities, such as extracurricular clubs, Career and Technical Education (CTE) classes, Advanced Placement (AP), and concurrent enrollment courses that prepare students for college and their careers.
Granger’s Career Center provides a wide array of resources to help students succeed. The center offers CTE classes, assistance with college admission, and employment opportunities. Many students visit the Career Center daily to explore ways to shape their future. The center’s computers are available for students who lack internet access at home, making it easier for them to complete assignments or research career options.
For those considering careers in the military, the Career Center provides information about joining the Army, Air Force, or Marines, with catalog flipbooks detailing what to expect and how to get involved. Students can also ask questions about their future plans and explore alternative career pathways. From GTI classes to military enlistment, the Career Center is an excellent starting point for students seeking guidance and opportunities.
