DANCE Alliance is a dance team here at Granger and is available to students who have an interest in dancing and have experience in dance. Dance Alliance started in 2023, and a few students in Dance Alliance and the coach have enjoyed how the experience is so far and what the dance team is all about.
Shaina Luong (12) is one of many dancers in the Dance Alliance team, “I joined because I enjoy dancing and working with the others,” Luong said. Luong says she enjoys being on the team because there is more time to learn new dance moves and to meet new people and make memories.
Another dancer in Dance Alliance is Kayla Reed (12) who joined because of having a passion for dance, “I’ve liked to dance for quite a while,” Reed said. “I also tried out for Dance Alliance because I couldn’t try out for Dance Company.”
Dance Alliance is a creative outlet for expression, a fun experience and a fun environment to be in. Luz Matos (12) is the captain of Dance Alliance for the 2024-2025 season, and she joined because of the challenges Dance Alliance brings, “I like dancing, and thought it would be a fun challenge in joining Dance Alliance,” Matos said. Matos also joined because it is under the leadership and guidance of Ms. Hodges.
Meladi Hodges is the coach of Dance Alliance. “Dance Alliance is for students who don’t have the time, money, or skills to join Dance Company,” Ms. Hodges said. Dance Alliance is great for students who want to have a performance opportunity but need less commitment when compared to Dance Company or the drill team.
Dance Alliance was formed for students who wanted or needed somewhere to belong, to craft together dances, and to have a fun time performing during class and for performances put on by the Dance Alliance team.
“I think it’s a lowkey team. Not as strict and time-committed as Dance Co, but Dance Alliance is just as committed and passionate about dance.” Ms. Hodges said. “Dance Alliance welcomes everyone, with little or experienced skills in dance.”
Dance Alliance is operated in a way that is flexible for the students who are in Dance Alliance. One of those things is that how it relies on the need for flexibility for those who don’t have the time, it is held during the 4th period on A-days.
There aren’t any before- and after-school practices in Dance Alliance, and this is done so that no student is left out, or couldn’t learn the new material because of the issue of time and availability. Dance Alliance practices in a way where all students within Dance Alliance still can learn and grow as dancers.
Since it is only done during the 4th period on A-days, it gives Coach Hodges and the Dance Alliance students more time one-on-one to learn the choreography that wouldn’t be possible for many of the students outside of school hours.
If any Lancer is interested in anything that has to do with dance but simply doesn’t have the time to be fully committed, Dance Alliance is perfect for those who want to dance but cannot do it before or after school. For more information, ask Coach Hodges in room L-211.
