HEY LANCERS! The Lancer Action Team has started off the Sub for Santa fundraiser; it is an annual tradition at Granger that helps raise money for people in need. Every year the lancer action team works hard throughout November, visiting classrooms to ask for donations. The goal is to gather as much money as possible to support those who are struggling and can’t afford essential items. The last day to raise money was on November 22.
The fundraiser isn’t just about collecting donations; it’s also a competition among all the grade levels to see who can raise the most. Last year, the seniors were in a tie with the freshmen, which has become a common pattern, with both grades constantly battling to win the top spot.
The seniors have a reputation for going into “panic mode” when they realize the freshmen are ahead, and they typically pull out their efforts towards the end of the competition to claim the win. However, the freshmen are often in first place in the early stages of the competition, which makes it very intense.
The Sub for Santa program has been a tradition at Granger for more than 11 years, and it’s become a good way for students to give back to the community. The Lancer Action Team is passionate about fundraising because it’s not only fun, but it is also incredibly amazing to be able to see the happiness on the faces of the people who benefit from these donations.
The Lancer Action Team works hard, knowing that every dollar they raise makes a difference in someone’s life.
Last year they raised an impressive $7,000. This year the team hopes they can raise even more than they did last year, but they think they will raise around $8,000 this year. Their goal for this year is to raise $20,000, which would be a dream for everyone in the team.
As of November 12, the seniors were in first place, sophomores second, freshmen in third, and juniors in fourth. But that changes daily. By November 13, the freshmen had made a big jump, pulling ahead of the other grades.
The Lancer Action Team president, Elianna Manatau (12), and the adviser, Ms. Jesse, don’t know who will win the competition this year because it’s hard to say who will come out on top with the freshman and seniors wanting to claim the spot and win this year.
They likely think the seniors will win given their history of raising the most money. Stay tuned lancers, to see the results on what grade will win this year’s Secret Sub fundraiser competition!
