Carter Vail, an indie rock musician, performed at the Complex, a venue in downtown Salt Lake. He opened for country musician, Yung Gravy. Carter started out on social media, and recently took off on short form platforms like TikTok with his song Dirt Man, a song about a man who keeps dirt in his lair underneath a mountain. Carter recognizes the role the Dirt Man plays in his success, as, during the concert, he introduced the song saying, “You might have seen this one on TikTok…” He carried this zany energy through the entire performance, having a PowerPoint slide introduce him, and pulling the splits mid-song with his guitarist.
Yung Gravy’s concert, but something bigger than the artist were the Fans. Fans were going crazy the start of the show the DJ started playing Well known songs such as “Fe!n” from Travis Scott and “Call me Maybe” from Cary Rae Jepson. These two songs alone got the crowd hyped and screaming with their hands up. People filling up the room dancing and singing their lungs out to the song.
The DJ had a slideshow for the concert explaining some rules for the concert which was funny. There was also a snack and drink bar which they were over charging ($10 for a Gatorade). The DJ before Yung Gravy came on stage was staying “this is the loudest and most hyped crowd I’ve ever seen in this tour so far and probably ever”. After a few more songs the DJ started hyping up the crowd for Yung Gravy ready to perform. The Crowd was chanting his name, and a few were already singing parts of his songs.
His first song choice for the concert was “oops!”. This song is about a character in the song named Tracy. And the meaning behind the song is about being unfaithful to his partner. But then accepting the consequences or his actions after his partner finds out.
The crowds knew his lyrics word for word and sing to his songs always screaming and cheering for Yung Gravy.
