AS THE weather cools and outdoor activities shift, fall ushers in a season filled with celebrations. This time of year brings three major holidays many enjoy: Day of the Dead, Halloween, and Thanksgiving. Granger High students also look forward to Fall Break and Thanksgiving Break, with some traveling out of state or even abroad, while others stay home to spend time with family and friends.
Day of the Dead is a Mexican tradition that honors and celebrates the departed, including family members, pets, and celebrities. It is believed that setting up an ofrenda and lighting candles invites the spirits of the dead to visit the living. Halloween, a favorite among many, allows Lancers to dress up, though costumes must adhere to the dress code. Thanksgiving, which is just around the corner, offers a chance to connect with loved ones and enjoy a well-deserved break from school.
Danny Aguiniga (11) described some of his favorite fall activities and plans for Thanksgiving break. “I like to go trick-or-treating; sometimes I go trunk-or-treating instead. I went to a carnival during fall break with my friends,” Aguiniga said. He says he’s still uncertain about his Thanksgiving plans but will likely spend time with friends.
Wyatt Hooper (11), a member of the Granger High baseball team, is looking forward to practicing this fall to prepare for the upcoming season in March. “I like playing baseball and doing anything athletic outside. I like going downtown and biking around while listening to music. Sometimes I go out with my friends,” Hooper said.
With fall in full swing, Lancers are making the most of the season’s traditions and opportunities to connect with others.
