In 2024, the NFL’s Super Bowl LVIII hit 123 million viewers. This once-a-year championship game brings one of the best entertainments to be seen: from the American football game to the halftime show including the amazing commercials! This day is a big day for advertising. Whether your company is small or big, you want it on the big screen with millions of people watching.
It ain’t cheap, though. Getting just a 30-second-long commercial in this Super Bowl will cost you $7 million. That’s $233,000 per second! If you were to spend that much on a commercial, surely you would want it to be worth it. Some of the highest-priced commercials from the previous Super Bowls were Pepsi, Amazon, Budweiser, Old Spice, etc. The difference between these commercials and normal commercials, apart from the price paid, would be that they want their ads to be unique and they will do everything they can for you to remember them.
Companies not only pay for screen time, but they will get famous actors, visual effects, and more. Whether it’s a song or a funny moment, the commercials should generate lots of profit. Every year, the commercials get bigger and better, and for the 2024 Super Bowl, they did not disappoint. These commercials were surprisingly fun. There were so many different companies that had a specific actor for their ad, such as Pringles, Michelob Ultra, State Farm, Dunkin’ Donuts, Mountain Dew, Popeyes, and more. Pringles even had actor Chris Pratt.
Michelob Ultra had professional futbol player Leo Messi, actor/comedian Jason Sudeikis from Ted Lasso, and Dan Marino, a former American football quarterback. State Farm had actor/governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and actor Danny DeVito.
The Dunkin’ Donuts ad had quite a few actors and was also one of my favorites. This commercial had actor Ben Affleck, singer Jennifer Lopez, rapper/singer Jack Harlow, American Football quarterback Tom Brady, rapper Fat Joe, and actor Matt Damon. As a follow up to Dunkin’ Donuts 2023 Super Bowl as, this year’s commercial was pretty funny having Affleck, Damon, and Brady in the music studio but getting rejected by Lopez and Fat Joe.
Mountain Dew had Aubrey Plaza advertising Mountain Dew Blast. Popeyes also was one of my favorites with comedian Ken Jeong advertising the new wings from Popeyes.
Even with all these actors, another big thing repeated was all the movie props, destruction, and CGI put into these commercials. The Coors Brewery commercial had a big, iced-out, frozen train going through a beach, a neighborhood, and finally smashing into the front doors of a house. Another commercial that included a lot of these things would be the State Farm movie ad. In this one, it has Arnold Schwarzenegger acting in a movie role in different situations, like saving dogs from a house that is on fire while the windows and doors explode, flying a helicopter, and carrying a pregnant woman out of a fire.
Besides all these commercials, they also had some advertising for the future movies and series that will be coming out soon. They had plenty of movies like Wicked releasing in November, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes releasing in May, both Despicable Me 4 and Twisters releasing in July, and the Deadpool & Wolverine movie, which I am personally excited about coming out on July 26.
I would say that the 2024 Super Bowl had amazing commercials and topped last year for sure. From funny moments to houses and cars exploding, these companies put a lot of effort into them and definitely made their profit, given the fact that this Super Bowl had 123 million people watching. Those numbers are for sure worth the time and effort that these companies put into the ads aired during gameplay, timeout, and TV commercial breaks.
