“Answer: Love Myself” by BTS promotes self love

WE HAVE all tried to love ourselves at one point or another. It can be a difficult thing to do, especially when you dislike yourself, or struggle with mental illnesses such as depression or anxiety. You may not fully love yourself yet, but even a little self love is important. The song I’ve chosen to review, talks about this in more detail.

The song “Answer: Love Myself” by BTS talks about learning to love yourself and the struggles that go along with it. The lyrics have deep meanings and even though at first glance, it may seem confusing, this song wasn’t created to just be out there, it was made to help people who are learning self love. The song is well made in my opinion and they successfully make their point.

BTS gave their fans hope; it opened their eyes and showed them that we all struggled with loving ourselves. They made fans feel like it was okay to not always be the happiest person around. In the song, they express how they have also struggled with self love and about their experience learning how to.

Let’s take one of their lyrics for example, “let’s admit what we have to admit, the standards you put are harsher on yourself.” This means that you’re saying hateful things about yourself and comparing yourself to others. And by doing so, you’re putting yourself in a hard situation.

“Why are they prettier than me?” or “I wish I was skinny.” Are thoughts that plague our minds on the daily. It’s normal to think like that, but it’s important to remember that you were born to be yourself, not anyone else.

Another lyric that stands out to me is, “it’s possible that there won’t be an answer, in a way this may not be an answer either. Even just loving myself I needed someone else’s approval, even now I’m still finding myself but I don’t want to die anymore” This is a lyric I want everyone to understand and pay close attention to. At one point you may hate yourself so much to the point you forget who you were anymore.

“Inside the center of your life is a thick tree that rings in your life it’s a part of you, it’s you” The reason why they said “a thick tree that rings in your life” is because it points out how trees are known to have rings that show in their trunks. These rings indicate how they lived. It’s saying, “embrace the way one lived in the past, even if it was harsh or bad,” as Min Yoongi, one of the members from BTS said.

There will be a day where you understand and love yourself. It may not be today but one day you’ll find true happiness in yourself.
