A NEW CHAPTER is beginning at Granger High with the arrival of our new Principal, Mr.Wright is coming in with a fresh perspective and new opportunities for both students and staff. While some students caught him late last year as he walked the halls, getting to know the Granger community while students were getting to know him.
Within just the short period of time of starting school up again, there have been both changes and a continuation of some of the procedures left behind by Dr. Howe. For example, the implementation of Yondr pouches. In his new job as the assistant superintendent in charge of secondary school supervision, Dr. Howe still works with Granger staff on decision-making, such as the new lunch schedule change.
Valeria Banderas (12) is part of SBO. She is the spirit representative and works with administrators often. Many students were kinda shocked when they first heard about Dr. Howe leaving, “It was weird to think about because I’ve gotten used to Dr. Howe, especially since I’ve had him since middle school,” Banderas said. She says she’s curious about how she will interact with the new principal.
“I was excited to see if the new principal had any new ideas to change our school. Also, since I’m in student government, I get to see and talk to the principal more than other students, so I was curious to know how he would work with us,” she said.
After getting to know the principal a little bit more, Banderas described him as easy-going and laid-back.
Dr. Howe and Mr. Wright have their own ways of doing things. “Dr. Wright is more nonchalant than Dr. Howe. The new principal doesn’t seem to need to be the center of attention as much as Dr. Howe liked to be. I like how he gets straight to the point and gives his input,” Banderas said.
Other students have said similar things, “He is super jolly and nice. I haven’t really seen him around school, but he did come to support some of the soccer games.” Julivette Palafox (11) said. Some students have gotten to know Mr.Wright better than others, but it might take a whole year to see his true colors. More and more of him is showing as the year is starting, but it seems like he is already pretty cherished.
“I think the new principal is a really down-to-earth person. He is a very easy person to like and makes good conversation. He doesn’t try too hard to make himself known; he kind of just walks around like a chill guy,” Jamie Pacheco (12) said.
Pacheco is the senior class vice president, and he has gotten quite comfortable with Mr. Wright, even giving him a nickname, “I feel like Dr. Howe was a way more outgoing person, and J-Dawg is the opposite. J-Dawg talks more calmly while Dr. Howe is a louder person,” he said.
Lancers can see the bright future that Mr. Wright is going to bring to Granger. “I think he’s doing well and being genuine. You can tell he wants to try new things that can benefit Granger,” Palafox said.
Likewise, Banderas said, “I think there haven’t been too many changes since he is still new, but I definitely feel like in the future he’ll make changes to the school that most students will like.”
Although the school year just began, students have very positive things to say about Granger’s new principal and what he’ll bring.
