THERE’S a new class this year, and it’s available to all students. The botany class has become one of the many selections for science. Some students are excited to learn what this class has to provide, and some are taking it for their missing science credits.
Isaac Maestas (12) is one of the students in botany. He selected this class for his love of science and his desire to learn about the real world. So far, he’s excited for the more hands-on experiments, one being dissecting plants and looking at them under microscopes. Maestas has enjoyed the atmosphere in his class, and not just because of the learning, but also because of the teacher.
Ms. Van Duyn is the teacher for botany, and she’s pretty enthusiastic about her teaching.
Alondra Montelongo (12) picked this class for credits, but in the end, she’s grown to like the class and teacher. “The teacher has a bomb soundtrack, and I’m excited for the banana bread Ms. V. hands out. Later in the semester, I’m looking forward to growing my own plant,” she said. “The teacher’s way of teaching is unique; she teaches in a way that interests students and catches their attention easily,” she said.
“I chose this class for the credit but ended up really liking it,” Kayden Vite (11) said. “I’m learning a lot of new things and making new friends,” he said. Vite is looking forward to the possible field trip their class is taking in the future. “Ms. V. is nice, and instead of yelling at students to focus, she directs their attention back in a more sane and proper way,” Vite said. Overall, Vite recommends this class to other students.
Jennifer Bertho (12) joined botany not only for credits, but for her friend. She’s learned about bees and how they distribute pollen. She is excited about planting her own flowers and learning the process. In the end, Bertho says the teacher is cool and just explains the curriculum in detail.
Marlin Perez (12), a close friend of Bertho, added how their class learned about the growth of sugar and corn. She also can’t wait to plant her own flowers. She likes that Ms.V. hands out banana bread and has snacks for students who need them.
Most Lancers taking a botany class really enjoy it and are excited to grow their own plants. Lancers should consider selecting it for the next school year, especially if they want banana bread!
