AFTER Mr. Howes’s promotion, Dr. Wright will be taking over Mr. Howes’s position as Granger’s principal.
Dr. Wright is more than happy to be following in Mr. Howe’s footsteps at Granger. “I get excited about my work when I see the potential you all have,” he said.
Dr. Wright has been working in the education field for more than 20 years, with Granger being his fifth school. He attended and taught at West High School. He has been a principal for 11 years, and he loves it very much. Dr. Wright is a very happy, talkative, and genuine man who loves working with his students.
He likes checking in with students and connecting with them as much as possible — making sure they know that they are heard and have someone to come to. “It’s always about the students, I always have the students in mind,” Dr. Wright said.
With all his schooling experience, he appreciates the work that Granger has done to improve student success with proposals like Flex time and Yondr pouches, and he is a huge fan of them. Dr. Wright believes that Flex Time helps students focus and improves their grades, while Yondr pouches help students put away their phones throughout the school day.
He loves seeing growth in students, and he loves being involved with school communities. “I’m excited for the newness, I’m excited to learn about all the good things here, to be part of a new community,” Dr. Wright said.
Although Dr. Wright has many accomplishments, there are two stand out as he looks back on his career. When he started at West High, the school wasn’t very student focused. He improved this by incorporating student opinions and building stronger connections with them. Now, it is much more focused where it should be.
He also helped establish a health clinic at West High, not only for physical health, but for mental health as well. This was done with the hope that he could bring help to the students who needed it—letting the students know they always have somewhere they could go if they needed any help. He’s always thinking about whether his actions will make things better for students.
Dr. Wright is very proud and excited to be moving to Granger. “I feel like I’ve won the lottery after being assigned here. This is a really good school,” Dr. Wright said. While he does have methods for student discipline, he also has his ways of engaging with students. “You can do it,” he said.
He treats students as individuals. “I try to have a persona that students can come to,” Dr. Wright said. He wants to be here for all Lancers and make sure they know they matter. He also wants them to succeed in their high school careers and is rooting for everyone — his whole purpose here is to help Lancers earn their diplomas so they can walk with pride at graduation.
